This call for proposals is for collaborative projects in the field of artificial intelligence. The project duration is generally set at three years, divided into two phases:
Stage 1: submission of a pre-proposal.
Stage 2: submission of a full proposal (only if the pre-proposal is invited to participate in stage 2)
Projects selected by both parties will receive funding from the NSTC for the Taiwanese team. The annual subsidy per project is generally set at NT$5 million.
** The areas of key co-operation themes include the following:
I. Fundamentals and Methodologies:
i. Edge AI
ii. Advanced and Hybrid Models
II. Domain Applications:
i. Smart Manufacturing / Industry 4.0
ii. Smart Agriculture / Farming Machines
iii. AI in Simulations / Physical Models
** To avoid duplication with other call themes, the following topics are excluded from funding:
i. Development of AI hardware
ii. Neuromorphic Computing
iii. Use of AI in medicine
iv. Human resources, marketing or customer support
v. Cybersecurity
vi. Predictive maintenance
vii. Civil security
viii. Robotic systems for patient care
Interested applicants shall read through the NSTC regulations on NSTC’s website (https://www.nstc.gov.tw/), and follow the steps below:
A. Complete the online application on NSTC's website.
B. Download the “NTU Application Form for NSTC Grant for the International Cooperative Project.”
C. Once the principal investigator, the head and dean of the executive department/institute have affixed their signatures or seals, please email the completed form to the Division of Research Project Affairs (RPA).
The deadline for submission is by 17:00, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.
Please synchronize your online application with the NSTC system before the deadline to allow the university to compile and send submissions to NSTC as scheduled.
Additionally, NSTC and (German) BMFTR will jointly host an online briefing session in early November 2025. Registration and participation details will be announced separately on the NSTC website.
