The NSTC participated in the Canada New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) Transnational Research Collaboration Programme in 2027.
The aforementioned 【2027 International Joint Initiative for Research Harnessing Disruptive Technologies to Address Global Challenges】represents a collaboration among research funders from the Åland Islands, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom to support international, interdisciplinary and transformative research aimed at harnessing disruptive technology to address major global societal challenges.
This programme application shall be conducted through a dual-track, synchronised process for both the international and Taiwanese components:
★ International Application:
This transnational integrated research programme is led by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). The Canadian Principal Investigator within the team must submit a complete project application on behalf of the transnational research team to Canada's New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF).
★ Taiwan-side Application:
The Taiwanese Principal Investigator shall, in accordance with the provisions of this announcement and in alignment with the multinational research team's schedule, concurrently submit a ‘Bilateral Agreement Project-Type International Collaborative Research Programme’ to the NSTC. This shall include the online submission of three stages: (1) the ‘Notice of Intent (NOI)’, (2) the ‘Letter of Intent (LOI)’, and (3) the ‘Full Application’.
The project duration is three years. The NSTC funding allocation shall, as a general rule, not exceed NT$3.6 million per project per annum.
The research topic of the proposed project must employ interdisciplinary techniques and encompass at least two of the following three major fields:
I. Natural Sciences and Engineering.
II. Health and Life Sciences.
III. Social Sciences and Humanities.
Key Cooperation Themes:
i. Good Health and Well-being.
ii. Gender Equality.
iii. Affordable and Clean Energy.
iv. Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
v. Sustainable Cities and Communities.
vi. Responsible Consumption and Production.
To submit an application for Stage 1 (the Notice of Intent), please adhere to the following steps:
(1) Complete the online application on NSTC's website.
(2) Download the “NTU Application Form for NSTC Grant for the International Cooperative Project.”
(3) Once the head and dean of the executive department/institute have affixed their signatures or seals, please email the completed form to the Division of Research Project Affairs (RPA).
The submission deadline for Stage 1 (the Notice of Intent) is 17:00 on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Please synchronize your online application with the NSTC system before the deadline to allow the university to compile and send submissions to NSTC as scheduled.
