Applications for this programme are now open to universities for recommendation.
Prospective applicants are required to carefully review the relevant regulations of this programme.
I. Applicant eligibility criteria are as follows:
(1) Applicants must be full-time staff holding positions of Associate Professor or Associate Researcher and above, within the Academia Sinica or domestic universities. Also, applicants must be aged 55 or below (applicants for the 2027 programme must have been born on or after 1 January, 1972).
(2) External awardees may apply for one extension, which must be submitted within the year following the expiry of the previous grant period, for the subsequent year's programme application, and shall be limited to one instance.
(3) The implementation period of the National Science and Technology Council's Individual Large-Scale Research Programme shall not overlap with this programme for more than one year and seven months.
II. The NTU internal processing schedule is as follows:
(1) This scheme operates on a recommendation basis. Each faculty (centre) may nominate a maximum of two candidates. Please clearly indicate the order of recommendation and list candidates sequentially on the 【Faculty Nomination Form】. Please submit the nomination form, together with the nominees' completed 【Letter of Intent】, to the Research and Development Office by 5:00 PM on Thursday, 9 April 2026.
Should more than five applications be submitted across the entire university, the R & D Office shall conduct a separate review before forwarding them to Academia Sinica.
(2) Applicants recommended by the university must submit their【Letter of Intent】via “Academic Service Management System” of AS (URL: http://asms.sinica.edu.tw/) by 5:00 PM on 30 April 2026 (Taiwan time) to complete the online application process.
(3) The Academia Sinica is expected to notify applicants of the outcome of the Letter of Intent review in mid-June 2026. The selected applicants must submit their 【Full proposals】online by 5:00 PM on 15 July 2026 (Taiwan time).
III. This scheme constitutes an individual research programme encompassing the fields of mathematical and physical sciences, life sciences, and humanities and social sciences. Applicants shall formulate proposals based on their research expertise. Spanning a five-year period, up to six non-institutional Academia Sinica scholars shall be selected annually through competitive assessment. Each approved project shall receive an annual research grant of up to NT$8 million.
IV. To enhance collaboration and exchange between both parties, the selected candidate shall be jointly appointed to the Academia Sinica for the duration of the project.
