National Taiwan University formulates the NTU Directives for Hiring Research Experts to promote pioneering technological research at the University.
They must hold a doctoral degree and be competent in the development, operation, and long-term planning of pioneering research technologies, as well as in cultivating teaching and research talent at all levels and improving their technological skills.
Units seeking to hire research experts shall clearly state the pioneering research technologies they wish to promote, as well as long-term plans for such technologies, expected future outcomes, and how the technology may be of practical benefit to research and development at the University. Applications shall first be submitted to the Office of Research and Development and the University’s Project Personnel Hiring Task Force for review and passage before an open job interview may be organized. Announcement of the job interview must be announced at least three days prior. Hiring choices shall be submitted to the competent top-level unit and the Office of Research and Development for review, and then forwarded to the Project Personnel Hiring Task Force for review and passage, and the President for approval before taking effect.
Reviews for prospective new hires and contract renewals shall be focused on the candidates’ skills and pioneering research outcomes. Publications, technical reports, and research equipment software or hardware products submitted for consideration shall meet one of the following criteria:
1.Publications shall be similar in nature to the type of work required for the candidate and shall have been published in or accepted by a domestic or international peer-reviewed journal within the most recent five-year period. For coauthored works, a written statement specifying the part(s) authored by the candidate signed by each coauthor as evidence shall be provided.
2.Technical reports may be written in either Chinese or English. They shall detail the specific outcomes of the development and operation of and long-term plans for the pioneering research technology in question.
3.Research equipment software or hardware products shall feature an original design, and supporting documents detailing the design shall be submitted.
Matters related to research experts’ remuneration and pay grades shall be based on their civil service grades as defined in the Salary Table for Faculty Members at Public Higher Education Institutions.
