Project Research Scholarship Recipients / Project Learning-Oriented Assistant

The application must comply with the following regulations and is open to students from both National Taiwan University and other universities:

Stipend Regulations for Project Research Scholarship Recipients / Project Employee-Oriented Assistant

Stipend regulations vary among funding agencies, with details outlined below:

The provided regulations are for reference purposes and may not be the most up-to-date information. In case of discrepancies arising from revisions in related regulations or other legal constraints, the applicable regulations shall prevail and be followed.

Note

  1. The hourly wage for project employee-oriented assistants shall not fall below the statutory minimum wage or exceed a maximum of NT$300 per hour (effective from Jan. 1, 2022). Any hourly wage exceeding the prescribed maximum requires approval from the Executive Vice President.
  2. The total monthly payment received by student research assistants must not exceed the maximum standard set by each funding agency or the university's regulation.
Application Procedure

Principal investigators are required to specify whether a student is involved in the project as a project research scholarship recipient (project learning-oriented assistant) or as a project employee-oriented assistant. Furthermore, they are expected to reach a consensus with the student concerning their respective rights and obligations.

To apply, please follow the steps below:

  1. Apply through the Project Personnel Employment Application System based on the agreed-upon employment type (project research scholarship recipients / project employee-oriented assistants).
  2. Both project research scholarship recipients and project employee-oriented assistants are required to access the "研究計畫兼任助理學生專區" on myNTU for online confirmation within the designated deadline. (Students from other universities, please use the link provided in your email.) Please note that project employee-oriented assistants must confirm within 7 days before the scheduled start date of employment. If the confirmation process is not completed by the deadline, the application will be canceled by the system automatically.

Note

  1. The employment of all types of student research assistants shall be applied for in advance, and the employment period shall not commence until the application is approved.
  2. The commencement date of employment for project employee-oriented assistants depends on both the approval date of the employment application and the completion of the labor insurance enrollment process. Please note that the employment contract cannot be backdated, and labor insurance cannot be applied retroactively.
  3. Due to project-related factors or other special reasons, if the principal investigator is unable to apply for the project research scholarship recipients in advance, they shall complete the application and approval process within 2 months from the commencement date of employment. Late applications will not be accepted.

Q&A

Q1 What if students do not receive email notifications delivered by the Project Personnel Employment Application System?

AThe emails sent by the system are susceptible to being classified as spam by free email accounts, such as Gmail. We recommend using NTU's email account. Alternatively, NTU students can directly access the "研究計畫兼任助理學生專區" on myNTU for online confirmation if they didn't receive the email.

Q2 Are Mainland Chinese students eligible to apply to serve as student research assistants?

AMainland Chinese students can only apply to serve as project research scholarship recipients under research projects not funded by government agencies

In accordance with Article XIV and Article XV of the "Regulations on Mainland Chinese Students Attending Junior College or Other Higher Education Institutions in Taiwan" and the official document of the Ministry of Education (code: 臺教高(四)字第1020140814B號令) issued on Jan. 22, 2014, while studying in Taiwan, Mainland Chinese students shall not take part-time or full-time jobs except for course-learning or service-learning project research assistants enumerated in the above-mentioned official document. Central government agencies and their subordinate entities shall not budget for scholarships or aids for Mainland Chinese students. Schools shall not use central government funding for the purposes of scholarships or aids for Mainland Chinese students.

Q3 Why can't students apply to serve as temporary worker?

AIn accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education on student research assistants, students can only serve as project research scholarship recipients or project employee-oriented assistants. Students who work as temporary worker in seminars or other events may apply for project employee-oriented assistants.

Review Process

For NTU Students - Project Research Scholarship Recipients

  1. The application undergoes online review by the Office of Research and Development.
  2. Upon approval, print the application form featuring the system watermark and obtain the required administrative stamps of approval before proceeding with reimbursement.

For Non-NTU Students - Project Research Scholarship Recipients

  • The application undergoes paper review by the Office of Research and Development.
  • Print out the application form, checklistletter of consent from the home university and attach relevant documents including identification document before proceeding to the approval procedures.

For NTU Students - Project Employee-Oriented Assistants

  1. The application undergoes paper review by the Office of Research and Development.
  2. Print out the application form, checklist, contract and attach relevant documents including identification document and submit to the Office of Research and Development within 3 days before the scheduled start date of employment.

For Non-NTU Students - Project Employee-Oriented Assistants

  1. The application undergoes paper review by the Office of Research and Development.
  2. Print out the application form, checklistletter of consent from the home university, contract and attach relevant documents including identification document and submit to the Office of Research and Development within 3 days before the scheduled start date of employment.
  3. For foreign students, in addtition to the aforementioned documents, a valid work permit is required.

Note

  1. Principal investigators and student research assistants may print and retain the "National Taiwan University Agreement for Project Research Scholarship Recipient and Project Employee-Oriented Assistant" after confirming online. If required, the agreement should be submitted to project executive units (departments, colleges or research centers) for future reference.
  2. If you're an NTU student, but your student ID number is not displayed in the system, please visit the Graduate Academic Affairs Division, Office of Academic Affairs to confirm your student profile information.

Q&A

Q How long will it take for the application for the NTU students - project research scholarship recipients to be reviewed online?

APrincipal investigators can check the application status in the system by accessing the "Applications pending approval" tab.

  1. If the "Edit" and "Notify the students via email for confirmation" buttons are visible in the status column, it indicates that students have not confirmed the employment type online.
  2. If the "Print the agreement" button is present in the column, it means the student has already confirmed, and the application is awaiting approval.

The personnel at the Office of Research and Development will review applications online every other day, but the review process might take longer when there is a higher volume of applications.

After the Application is Approved

To protect the rights of student research assistants, following the approval of the employment application, stipend shall be disbursed on a monthly basis.

Project employee-oriented assistants are required to personally sign in and out in accordance with the agreed-upon working hours. The arrangement of work and rest hours, leaves, rest days, and fixed days off for the assistants shall comply with the Labor Standards Act. Principal investigators are responsible for monitoring the attendance of project employee-oriented assistants and maintaining an attendance record for future reference. The attendance records of assistants shall be retained for five years from the first day of separation, following the NTU regulations and the Labor Standards Act.

Project executive units (departments, colleges or research centers) shall protect the rights of student research assistants (including NTU students who serve as research assistants outside NTU) in accordance with "國立臺灣大學勞僱型學生兼任助理勞動權益保障處理要點" and "國立臺灣大學獎助生權益保障處理要點." The project executive units are authorized to stamp and approve relevant documents within their jurisdiction and responsibility for personnel management matters. These units are tasked with assisting principal investigators in the management of and dispute resolution with student research assistants, following labor regulations and related student regulations. Each unit is required to maintain written records of dispute settlement for future inspection.

Q How can I modify the initially approved stipend amount for student research assistants?

A

The originally approved application has been confirmed by the principal investigator and student research assistant regarding its employment type, employment period, and stipend. To protect the rights of student research assistants, arbitrary changes to the employment period and stipend are not permitted.

  • If project research scholarship recipients need to adjust the stipend amount, please first complete the termination process for the original period on the "Project Research Scholarship Recipients Termination System" in accordance with applicable regulations. Afterward, submit a new application following a reevaluation of the employment type.
  • For project employee-oriented assistants, it is necessary to undergo separation and labor insurance coverage withdrawal procedures. Please refer to the file: "Sponsored Project Employee-Oriented Assistant Separation Procedural Checklist."

Please note that terminations must be applied for in advance. The termination date may not be retroactively approved.

Application for Early Termination & Certificates

Termination Application Procedure

To protect the rights of student research assistants, changes to the employment period and stipend are not permitted.

  1. Project research scholarship recipients shall complete the online applications on the "Project Research Scholarship Recipients Termination System" for early termination of service in accordance with applicable regulations.
  2. Project employee-oriented assistants must undergo separation and labor insurance coverage withdrawal procedures before proceeding with early resignation and contract termination. Please submit the duly approved "Sponsored Project Employee-Oriented Assistant Separation Procedural Checklist" to the Office of Research and Development.

Please note that terminations must be applied for in advance. The termination date may not be retroactively approved unless the reason for the termination of service is leave of absence, dismissal or graduation.

Certificates Application Procedure

  1. For project research scholarship recipients, the service certificate is issued by the principal investigator or the project executive unit.
  2. For project employee-oriented assistants, please submit the duly approved "Sponsored Project Employee-Oriented Assistant Certificate Application Form" to the respective handling units for processing. Regarding the employment certificate, the handling units will verify the applicant's current employment status. The separation certificate must be issued after completing separation procedures. The Chinese version is issued by the Office of Research and Development, while the English version is issued by the Office of Secretariat.
