With the goal of protecting research participants’ well-being, NTU’s Behavioral and Social Sciences Research Ethics Center was established in 2010 as a regulator for developing and setting up research ethics guidelines in different academic fields.

The Behavioral and Social Sciences Research Ethics Center was inaugurated in November 2011 after its first meeting of the 15-member Research Ethics Committee earlier that year in May. The center is not only responsible for reviewing research ethics applications within NTU, but it also reviewing applications from other members in the Northern Taiwan Alliance for Human Research Protection, including cases concerning animal treatment and use in experimental trials. In October 2020, the size of the Research Ethics Committee increased to 21 members.

In December 2014, NTU's Behavioral and Social Sciences Research Ethics Center met the requirements set by the Ministry of Education's Human Research Protection Plan (HRPP), thereby officially becoming a certified rcenter for research ethics approved by authorities. Currently, the center reviews over 500 new case submissions and over 600 follow-up cases every year. In addition, it also assists in, annually, the review of submissions from over 60 universities across Taiwan.
