Application Procedure
for NSTC Research Project
Legal Basis

Operation guidelines for NSTC Research Project Grants, applicable regulations issued by NSTC, and NSTC's announcements of calls for proposals.

Annual Call for Proposals for General Research Projects

Application Period: from November to December annually.

Application Procedures:

  1. The project principal investigator submits the application on the NSTC's website within the designated deadline set by the university.
  2. The responsible personnel of the department/institute will verify the project applications online on the NSTC's website and create a roster of all the applicants. Once the head of the department/institute reviews the roster and affixes their seal, it will be submitted to the respective college for further processing.

If a retired teaching and research fellow meets any of the following criteria, along with the requirement of their department/institute signing a declaration of support, is eligible to apply.

  • Academicians of the Academia Sinica
  • Recipients of the Ministry of Education's National Professorship Awards, Academic Awards or National Award for Distinguished Contribution to Industry-Academic Cooperation
  • Two-time Recipients of the NSTC Outstanding Research Award
  • Outstanding Scholar Award of the Foundation for the Advancement of Outstanding Scholarship
  • Other prestigious awards recognized by NSTC

Note

The declaration of support refers to the requirement for the department/institute to sign a declaration stating their willingness to provide necessary space and equipment for the research. Additionally, they will take responsibility for all administrative procedures associated with the project. This declaration should be included as an attachment to the consolidated list of applicants as part of the application process.

  1. The responsible personnel of each college will compile the received rosters from their affiliated departments/institutes and submit the consolidated list to the dean. The dean will review the list and affix their seal.
  2. The consolidated list must be submitted to the Office of Research and Development (R&D) within the designated deadline set by the university for further processing and submission to NSTC.
  3. The Personnel Office will verify whether the applicant is a full-time staff member within the university's official staffing structure.
  4. The Office of R&D will conduct a thorough eligibility verification process for the project application. Once the verification is complete, all the applications will be compiled and submitted to NSTC along with an official document from the university.
Research Project for New-Hired Teaching and Research Fellow (Rolling Basis)

Application Period: Accepting applications on a rolling basis.

The teaching and research fellow who have never applied for NSTC research projects can apply on a rolling basis within 3 years from the date of employment, the date of obtaining a doctoral degree, or the date of meeting the eligibility criteria for project principal investigators as stated in Article 3 of the Operation Guidelines for NSTC Research Project Grants.

Application Procedures

  1. After submitting the application online through NSTC's website, please proceed to log in to the university's official document system at https://ndoc.ntu.edu.tw/ifdportal_ntu/ to create an official document specifically for the project application. You can find the template by navigating to the Official Document System > Document Creation > Standard Templates > 9-12 (9-12【函】新進教師申請國科會計畫).
  2. Along with the official document, please make sure to attach a completed personnel information form (the PRIV-0 form printed from NSTC’s website) and include a certificate of completion for a 6-hour academic ethics education training. These documents shall then undergo the internal approval process before being submitted to the NSTC for review.
Annual Calls for Research Project Proposals

Non-Industry-Academia Cooperative Research Program

Application Period: According to the calls for proposals announced by NSTC for each program.

Please follow the application procedures and submit your application by the deadline announced by the university. For more information, please refer to the latest news on the ORD's website.

Application Procedures

  1. After submitting the application online through NSTC's website, please print out the CM01 form from the website. The applicant, the head and dean of the department/institute, must affix their seals on the form before submitting it to the Office of R&D.
  2. The Personnel Office will verify whether the applicant is a full-time staff member within the university's official staffing structure.
  3. The Office of R&D will conduct a thorough eligibility verification process for the project application. Once the verification is complete, all the applications will be compiled and submitted to NSTC along with an official document from the university.

Industry-Academia Cooperative Research Program

Application Period: Accepting applications twice a year (within the months of May to June and November to December).

NSTC announces the 2nd call for proposals of the current year in May or June, and the 1st call for proposals of the following year in November or December. In cases where the project proposal is based on market opportunities and requires submission outside the designated application period, the principal investigator may submit a request to NSTC with a detailed explanation of the reasons.

Application Procedures

  1. After submitting the application online through NSTC's website, please print out the CM01 form from the website.
  2. Additionally, fill out the "NSTC Industry-Academia Cooperative Research Program Application (with conflict of interest declaration form).” The principal investigator, as well as the department/institute head and dean, should affix their seals on the form.
  3. Once completed, submit the form to the Office of R&D.

Notice

If the cooperative enterprise provides equipment as part of capital contribution, the following documents must be included in the project proposal according to NSTC regulations:

  1. Equipment evaluation data.
  2. "Cooperative Enterprise Commitment Letter" transferring equipment ownership to the university. Once the project application is approved by NSTC, the contract signing process will commence. After the contract is signed by NSTC, the cooperative enterprise, and the university's principal investigator (PI), the equipment shall be transferred to the university within 3 months after the contract signing.
  3. An official document with the seal of the head and dean of the project execution unit, obtained through the university's administrative procedures. The official document template can be found on NSTC's website. To create this official document, please log in to the university's official document system.

These documents should be included as supporting materials in the project proposal and attached to the form CM20A.
