To encourage and help NTU Core Consortium Project teams and NTU-administrated key integrated project teams to pursue diverse and long-term international cooperation and partnership with their existing capacity, this International Cooperation Add-on Project application is established and made available for teams currently running the aforementioned projects.
Teams currently running NTU Core Consortium projects and NTU-administrated key integrated research projects are eligible to apply as a team, represented by either the Main Principal Investigator or a Subproject Investigator and can execute at most one application per year for each NTU Core Consortium project and NTU-administrated key integrated research project. The statement/intent for an intended cooperation signed by Lead PIs from all parties is required for submission of the add-on project.
The Call-for-proposal will be announced twice a year (the first and the second half year, respectively) by the Office of Research and Development. Successful projects submitted in the first half year would start in the same year, while those submitted in the second half year would start from the following year.
This grant can be used for expenses related to international cooperation, such as general operating expenses (including off-site research expenses), international travel expenses, and expenses for inviting/hosting international scholars (e.g., local hosting expenses). This grant does not support personnel and equipment expenses.
The grant shall be used for items related to international exchange and cooperation, such as:
(I) off-site or overseas research of faculty, researchers, and students; (II) hosting workshops, conferences, and forums; (III) holding short-term/intensive courses, lecture series, or regular courses etc.
Through the implementation of this add-on project, it is aimed to promote and achieve the following: (I) forming or joining regional or topical partner hubs/consortia; (II) co-instructing/advising students; (III) participating in or establishing large international projects, international joint research centers or laboratories; (IV) establishing long-term international cooperation, strategic partnerships, international joint publications etc.
The planning and use of the grant shall comply with grant regulations of the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Sprout Project (大專校院高等教育深耕計畫經費使用原則), Directives for funding usage entrusted and subsidized by Ministry of Education (教育部補(捐)助及委辦經費核撥結報作業要點), and other relevant regulations of the government.
Either single-year or multiple-year project can be applied, but not exceeding the end date/duration of the original project. The remaining duration of the original project must be longer than one year at the time of application.
The budgets of multiple-year projects shall be planned and listed in an annual base. The upper limit of the total grant support is NT$1,500,000 for each consortium or integrated project team's International Cooperation Add-on Project (throughout the original project’s duration, regardless of the number of applications). Each original project can execute at most one add-on project a year.
(1) Relevance of International Cooperation Add-on Project to the original project
(2) Potential, novelty, significance, importance of the research areas and topics
(3) Prospect in international competitiveness
(4) Academic performance and international experience of Project Investigators
(5) Ability and performance of foreign strategic cooperation partners/team
(6) The necessity and added value of international cooperation
(7) Anticipated results and achievements by the international cooperation
(8) In accordance with the purpose of this add-on project
(9) Higher priority on "team-to-team" and "NTU strategic sister universities" project
I. When approved of this grant, the annual report of the International Cooperation Add-on Project shall be turned in together with the annual report of the original project. This shall serve as a reference for the approval of the grant for the following year and future applications.
II. For multiple-year add-on projects, when turning in the annual report of the International Cooperation Add-on Project, if there is any alteration in plan and execution for the next year, please state it clearly also in the annual report .
